デスノート第１話 – Death Note Episode 1

Light Yagami is a genius. A very bored genuis. When he gets his hands on a black notebook that says ‘ Death Note ‘, his boredom spell is cured indefiently.

Light basically hates the way his life is going. Its too predictable and everything is coming too easy for him. When he stumbles over a notebook in the school’s courtyard, he wonders if the book is really what it says its to be. Well, the moment he uses it… it transforms is life. Forever.

– Light stumbles over the Death Note
– Light thinks the book is a prank and tests it on a criminal who’s holding an Elementary school hostage
– The hostages are released and they find the criminal dead. Light doesn’t think its real and simply believes its a coincidence.
– Light then takes the book with him to cram school and on his way home uses it on one of the bike gang members who’s trying to rape a young female in front of the 7-11. When he watches the brutal death of the gang leader, he then realizes that the book is truly the real thing.
– Light then uses the book with the reason of setting forth justice in the world and in less than a week has managed to fill up several papges in the book with names of criminals and convicted ones.
– Ryuk comes into the human world and confronts Light about the book. Light is startled at first but then calms down and basically tells Ryuk that its been a while.
– Ryuk explains the book to Light and the pros and cons of it.
– Light proposes to Ryuk about his plan and Light declares himself to be the ” God of the New World “. Ryuk then finds this very amusing and wants to see what turn of events will happen next.

Not much happens in this episode, its more of Light blabbering about how boring the world is and how he’s gonna change it with Ryuk’s added ” lol humans are teh funniez ” commentary. I know a lot of people like Mamoru Miyano’s performance in this ep but I find it a little… off. Light sounds like Tamaki who’s gone serious with a God complex, though the evil laugh he did was pretty good. Considering that there’s 36 more episodes to go, hopefully Mamo will settle into his role and make Light his own as he’s made Tamaki and all his other previous roles.

I like how the anime basically tells you that Light is the bastard out to destroy the world and he’s an evil little prick rather than being favorable to his benefit and leading us on that he isn’t baddy. They’ve basically let you know that Light is the devil in disguise. Interesting twist and it makes it all the better, so I have a feeling anime!Light will be more of a bastard than his manga counterpart.

The next episode will consists of Light’s plan to blow up the world. No, actually, it starts the mind battle between him and L.
