Some new single releases for this week and last week. Though, for some reason they all seem weak. Since I’ve already reviewed Chemistry’s new single, I’ll do a review for SOUL’d OUT and Porno Graffitti.
Porno Graffitti is first on the chopping block with Winding Road. I do not know what the hell this is quite honestly o_O; Ever since the bassist left, PG has been struggling to like come out with songs that have that trademark heavy bass sound with strong guitar riffs and distinctive vocals. It seems they’re reaching but not enough and this single is a complete train wreck, even the B sides can’t save the mess that is Winding Road. The only good track on this single is track 3, ” Wendy no Usui Moji “. Devil in Angel is more so the vocalist (you know, for me listening to this group since 2001 you would think I’d know their names) reaches for this high pitches that seem like they’re putting a hurting on him (it’s closer to the trademark Porno Graffitti sound but it still doesn’t cut it) and the title track is too slow. I just don’t like this single. :/ I guess with a few more listens it’ll grow on me but I don’t think I should force myself to like a song.
SOUL’d OUT’s new single, Starlight Destiny seems like To All Tha Dreamers… except Diggy Mo is singing more than rapping and that Bro.Hi is like non existant (I only know their names cause *points to CD cover*). The song is alright, but its not… great either. Its just there and it ends on such an akward note… its just… leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. I dunno, maybe they should had let the instrumental run a little more than just leave it with Diggy belting out a note off key. POSTMODERN is alright but as weak as the A side, if not weaker. Its in English but it really makes no sense… or I’m not taking time out to bother trying to decipher what they’re ramblign about (it’d probably make sense since Diggy grew up in Australia, according to the OHP). The last track, ALIVE -live- is just a live performance from one of their concerts which seems better than the 1st and 2nd track, but this single had me realize something: All SOUL’d OUT songs sound the same. Good thing I don’t bother with this group and stick wtih Rip Slyme and Rhymester.
