When you show the world the ultimate cure, humans are bound to go insane trying to do everything in their power to obtain it.
Last week Orthros no Inu was subjected to a one hour clip show hosted live by the three leading cast members and an apology from Ryo Nishikido for being sick and holding up production for one week. Because how dare a Johnny get sick with the flu and back everyone up. How DARE he. We all should send him hate mail for being a fuck up.
Anyway, this week was the airing of episode 7 in which a hospital holds itself ransom for Ryuzaki to show up and cure everyone or else they’d blow it up. Fortunately enough to add more to the suspense it is the hospital that Ryosuke is staying at with his student taking care of her mother who’s in ICU.
But if that isn’t enough suspense to shake your tail feather at, pieces of Ryuzaki’s past is revealed to the world shedding light on why Ryuzaki is basically trollin’ everyone with his superpowers. With this valuable information, Sawamura’s insane quest on obtaining this power for himself gets himself even closer to Ryuzaki and Ryosuke.
By the time the episode ends, we find out that it was just another PotW (Problem of the Week) that ended up getting solved. Ryuzaki ends up getting arrested again because he’s causing too many problems for the Japanese government and Ryosuke continues to question himself, Ryuzaki, and his abilities.
Orthros no Inu is like… You watch it because you’re already done the deed so you might as well finish it. After the surprisingly interesting episodes 5 and 6, I was expecting more of that to carry over into episode 7. But, instead, we’re presented with a siege on a hospital, a rush to heal nearly 20 patients before a bomb sets off, and Ryuzaki giving another one of his “ lol humans are dumbasses “ speeches and jacking up the situation even more by making the hospital patients pick 10 amongst each other to be healed.
Ryosuke did nothing in this episode as usual, which was a pretty shitty disappointment considering he had mildly redeemed himself in episode 5 and 6. Yet again he proved that a plank of wood is more useful of a character than himself ; spending majority of the episode running around a hospital looking for a bomb. Its like if you took away the stalker, wife beating, characteristics of Sousuke you’d have Ryosuke Aoi.
Two very useless characters.
It’s been seven episodes already and all we know about Ryuzaki is that his powers caused an entire village to go batshit insane and self destruct, he’s been an orphan since then, he’s been in jail for 10 years, and he didn’t kill those kids to prove a point. Basically, Ryuzaki is shell shocked because of what happened at Rukoku Village 15 years ago, so he toys with humans to see how far they would go to be healed. Oh, and, it looks like his father is trying to kill him.
But what about Ryosuke? Who all we know is that he’s from the same village, has the opposite ability to Ryuzaki, and killed the family dog. Then there was this plot of the two of them going head to head in this big old battle of Good vs Evil, but all I see here is Ryuzaki acting as the anti-hero and Ryosuke running around like his sidekick helper which then kills the excitement for that so called “backdrop” for this story.
It’s not like I’m asking much here, but god damn man, Maou was already like pure straight Columbian cocaine by the time we hit the mid season mark. Orthros no Inu is like a shitty cigarette that you bummed off a friend cause you’re out. It tastes like pure shit but you’re smoking it anyway cause you still need that hit. I was expecting some pure coke here; sadly, I’m not getting it.
Next week looks like more of the same bullshit. Cept, maybe, Ryuzaki might actually get into Hasebe’s pants.
Meh.
