Karei Naru Spy just reached it’s climax in episode 9 with the finale airing next week, promising to end on a exciting note but I really doubt its going to be spectacular since the last three episodes have been less than that.

In this episode, Kiriyama lets everyone know that he’s received trip that a double agent for Mr. Takumi maybe among them in the Secret Intelligence Agency headquarters, causing Kyousuke to storm out in a fit claiming no one ever trusts him and he’s always the suspected one. Five minutes later, for some reason, Kyousuke and Kurusu are pals again as they try to figure out who’s the double agent. Nice continuity there, writers.

This face to face would have been nice if the story wasn't boring

Kurusu suspects that it’s Osamu and Kyosuke begins to have his suspicions too… going as far as to taking away Osamu’s laptop and watching him have a childish fit over it. Then taunting him with it. While, on the surface, Yoshizawa is personally visited by Mr. Takumi himself and realizes that his own personal aides had been spies for him all along.

Realizing his life is at stake, he runs to the SIA and the aide of Kiriyama. Kurusu then tries to attack the Prime Minister Yoshizawa with a banana and Osamu activates all the girls in the agency into assassination mode, revealing that the cute girls were actually androids created by Osamu. The assassination attempt is stopped by Kyousuke and Dorothy, in which they take the Prime Minister into hiding as the SIA recovers from the attack. Before Osamu escapes, he reminds Kyousuke that he doesn’t have friends and he will never have them.

As Kiriyama searches for Dorothy, Kyousuke, and the Prime Minister, Miku is told to write an article about the Prime Minister’s secret spy organization as it’s now exposed, finally getting the green light on the article she pushed for back during the show’s start. Unfortunately, being in love with Kyousuke and respecting his profession, she’s having a hard time trying to write this article. Fortunately, her parents call her to let her know the Prime Minister is hiding in her house and she rushes home.

From his makeshift headquarters in a moving truck, Mr. Takumi launches a missile towards Tokyo that explodes over the city and acts like a greenhouse. The temperature is quickly rising, at extreme rates over 110 degrees Fahrenheit, causing the citizens of Tokyo to pass out due to heat exhaustion.

As Miku and her family “guard” their restaurant from whatever unsuspecting assassins out for the Prime Minister’s life, Kyousuke and Yoshizawa have a one on one talk in Kyousuke’s room. During this conversation, Yoshizawa lets Kyousuke know that he is his father and even shows him the necklace that matches the one Kyousuke is wearing. Kyousuke is confused and angered at the revelation, letting Yoshizawa know that Takumi had told him that he was his father. Yoshizawa asks forgiveness but Kyousuke says nothing.

Meanwhile, Dorothy is acting suspiciously, always checking her cell phone for a message that never comes. Kiriyama gets a hold of Dorothy and demands to know where they are at but Dorothy lies, stating that they’re at her apartment. Kiriyama alerts everyone to her apartment and Josephine runs to the weapons development room to notify Mr. Takumi that the Prime Minister is at Dorothy’s apartment. Kiriyama finds out that Josephine is also a double agent and is knocked out by Elise, who also, is a double agent for Mr. Takumi.

He wakes up a few moments later to an empty agency. All the lights go out and a moment later everything turns red and all the computer monitors turn on to Mr. Takumi’s logo. He turns around to see Kurusu, Osamu, Elise, and Josephine grinning at him, claiming that the SIA is now in control of Mr. Takumi.

Miku lets Kyousuke and Yoshizawa know its time for dinner. The two go down and prepare to eat, but the moment Yoshizawa begins to eat the dinner Miku’s parents made for them Dorothy pulls out a gun and shoots the Prime Minister, “ Praise Mr. Takumi-sama “.

This episode was interesting and it had some funny scenes, like the one where Kyousuke torments Osamu with his laptop, but it lacked the tenacity it always lack. The part where it’s supposed to be funny and engaging but it’s neither so it ends up being boring.

Who's the baby's daddy. I mean, seriously.

Who’s the baby’s daddy. I mean, seriously.

It was interesting to find out that all of Kiriyama’s top spies were in fact double agents for Mr. Takumi, but on the other hand, hard to believe when you sit there and think about it. For an organization funded by the Japanese government, you think they would have figured this out by now. Especially with Osamu constantly connecting to Mr. Takumi’s network. Then again, he did explain that he was “hacking” into the system when Kyousuke inquired about it.

The reason why Mr. Takumi wanting to destroy Japan and Yoshizawa is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. A friendship broken apart by a love affair and a misunderstanding 30 years ago causes a man to terrorize a country is just… Way over the top. Had Mr. Takumi had a more “sinister” reason as to why he wanted to destroy Japan and Yoshizawa, it probably would have been more engaging to watch.

Nagase pretty much gave up in this drama. Watching him act in this is like watching someone kick a puppy. It’s that bad… In all the dramas I have see him act in, this is the worst drama I have ever experienced with him as an actor. Nagase has given up on Kyousuke Yoroi and it shows. He comes off forced and flat; his uncaring and “ Nobody likes me “ speeches are more of a pain to watch than anything. I wonder if he regrets doing this drama?

Also, the developing love triangle between Miku, Dorothy, and Kyousuke is shooting itself in the face. Miku loves Kyousuke, Dorothy loves Kyousuke – Who the fuck does Kyousuke love? Why is this even necessary? These so-called “ longing “ stares Dorothy and Kyousuke give each other are so annoying to watch. It’s about as useless as Dorothy being a man. What’s going on with that?

The finale airs this Saturday, with all of our questions hopefully being answered. I have no hopes for this finale and I do not plan on expecting anything from it. I doubt it’s going to be half assed like Buzzer Beat or surprisingly good like Orthros no Inu. But, hopefully it won’t be shitty. I at least expect that much out of it.
