The Prime Minister is shot and the agency you worked for has turned traitor. What do you do when you’re fighting terrorism on your own and the world’s fate lies on your very shoulders?

Another surprise for me. Karei Naru Spy ended last week… I thought it was ending this week.

After Dorothy shoots Yoshizawa, they rush him to the hospital and deal with this gunshot wounds in the ICU – Then transfer him to a secure private room in the hospital. She’s arrested for the assassination attempt and Kyousuke goes out to save her, against Miku’s complaints of the idea.

Kyousuke and Miku gear up and con an officer into letting them into the holding cell to where Dorothy is being hold. They knock out the guard, bust Dorothy out, and Miku starts to interrogate her once they get back to their resturaunt on why Dorothy tried to kill the Prime Minister. Dorothy tells them that Mr. Takumi promised that she would be able to take revenge against Yoshizawa for “killing” her twin brother.

In the meantime, Tokyo’s temperatures are rising to extreme levels and nearly 30,000 people have already passed out due to heat exhaustion. Kyousuke runs back to the hospital to interrogate and stop an assassination attempt on Yoshizawa. The double agent instead kills himself before Kyousuke has a chance to find out where Mr. Takumi is hiding.

That's not a boy. :(

That’s not a boy. 🙁

Back in the private room (or hallway, which is what it looks like), Yoshizawa and Kyousuke have another talk – this time airing out all the laundry and putting everything on the table. Yoshizawa tells Kyousuke that he forgives Dorothy for shooting him and that Kyousuke should do the same for his own mother.

Back at the restaurant, Kyousuke talks to Dorothy about why she did what she did. Proclaiming that she will never forgive Yoshizawa for what he did to her brother, Kyousuke tells her that Yoshizawa has forgiven her for trying to kill him and that she should do the same as well. Dorothy gives in and forgives Yoshizawa, promptly changing her alliance from Mr. Takumi back to the S.I.A.

Kyousuke and Dorothy return to the SIA, where Osamu, Kurusu, and Elise have Kiriyama hostage and the facility under Mr. Takumi’s control. Kyousuke tries to figure out why they’re doing what they’re doing and it all boils down to money and what they really want in life, which Mr. Takumi had promised to provide if they carried out their duties. Kyousuke convinces them that they had always had it with the SIA and everyone quickly gets a hold of themselves. They switch the facility back to SIA control, and start to work together in stopping the series of greenhouse effect terrorist bombs that are about to be launched from Torinoshima.

Mr. Takumi, realizing that all his manpower is either dead, arrested or returned back to fighting against him, goes to the hospital personally to assassinate Yoshizawa himself. He quickly gets through all the protection to Yoshizawa’s room to find out he’s not there. Then he notices a blood trail and begins to follow it.

After arriving on the rooftop, several large “signs” tell him to look to his left, his right, and behind him to where Kyousuke appears. Mr. Takumi threatens to press the button to release the bombs where then Kiriyama snipes the controller out of his hand and Kyousuke arrests him. Mr. Takumi, then in a fit, starts crying and rambling.

Once the missiles are stopped, Tokyo is still in a state of emergency with the temperature still rising. With Osamu delivering the bad news that a change in temperature won’t happen for another 60 years, everyone tries to think of a solution until the idea of a “ Mizu-Uchi” is brought up.

Mizu Uchi is an old tradition in Japan where people in the summer will water down the streets believing it will cool down the day.

Osamu notifies the Prime Minister of the plan and Yoshizawa announces to all the citizens of Tokyo to water their streets together to lower the temperature. The plan is successful and the temperature of Tokyo returns to normal.

At the end, Kyousuke is granted his freedom from the Prime Minister and is released from the SIA. But, he finds it hard to leave and ultimately stays with the SIA becoming Dorothy’s partner. As they work on the case, both Dorothy and Kyousuke are wearing the cross that enables them to quickly change character.

In the final moments, Kyousuke finally visits his mother and forgives her as they watch the sunset from the beach together.

I am really disappointed in this drama. It actually ended up becoming real crappy at the end. There was never anything really captivating that kept me watching it. I think I always kept watching each episode hoping it would get better but instead it just kept getting worst and worst.

... I... ... yeah.

… I… … yeah.

The budget that Kare Naru Spy had practically dissolved by the final episode. Wigs and various other props got reused, majority of the filming was kept to sound stages, and it just came off overally campy. It was just all around bad as it pushed towards the end.

All the jokes that referenced Dorothy being actually once a man evaporated in the end when it was revealed that Dorothy actually had a twin brother who was killed in an accident due to Yoshizawa. I don’t know why they ended up going this route, as its pretty simple to figure out who’s who when you’re identical twins of different sex. Everyone in the first four episodes kept mistaking her for a “ Keiichiro “ and then Kyousuke always mistaking her for a man only set the stage up that she was, in fact, a man.

But, nope, instead her brother died and it was Yoshizawa’s fault.

… What. How random.

I think what probably pissed me off the most was the failed love triangle that ended up going no where and ended up going in one direction that was pretty much obvious back in episode one. Kyousuke and Dorothy end up with each other… Well, if you take into consideration Yoshizawa had given Kyousuke’s mother, Sakura, a matching cross as a sign of their love and marriage. Miku went from being in love with Kyousuke to forgetting that she ever was in love with him and allowing Dorothy to pursue her feelings.

That was annoying. I hate stories that want to use the love triange route and then never do anything with it.

Lets forget the fact I tried to kill you and mocked you for being socially awkward

I’ll probably never watch. Actually, wait, I’ll rephrase it. I’ll never watch Karei Naru Spy. If I had to pick between this and Orthros no Inu, I’d watch Orthros instead. Unlike Karei Naru Spy, I actually wanted to watch it even though I thought that drama sucked too. It’s the lesser of the two evils, only because Orthros no Inu never tried to be funny.

Karei Naru Spy tries to be funny and it becomes unbearable to watch.

I honestly do believe that if they gave Tomoya Nagase a stronger cast to work with, Karei Naru Spy probably wouldn’t have been so unbearable to watch. Kyoko Fukada was so terrible I wanted her to get hit with a rocket or something and blow up. I don’t even know why she even has a career because this performance was like nails on a chalk board.

It was that bad.

Karei Naru Spy was like… You watched it once a week hoping it’d get better but instead it’d just get worst and worst and worst, to the point where you don’t even know why you’re watching it anymore. All you’re hoping for is that something happens that makes it the most awesome drama you’ve ever watched.

You wanted to relieve the My Boss, My Hero experience and every week it was like becoming farther and farther from ever happening.

When I look back at last year, when I was watching Yasuko and Kenji, I enjoyed every single week. It was a great experience, a great mix of comedy and drama. I enjoyed every week of that drama, yet its one year later, another TOKIO member lead drama and it just fell flat on its face.

Maybe Nagase has a streak of bad luck lately with his dramas.

I don’t know, but this definitely was the icing on the cake for the Summer 2009 shit dramas. Why? Because it had so much potential of being the comedy of the summer and fell so hard on its face.

I’m disappointed in this show, I truly am.
