Ahhhhhhhhh, we’ve reached the checkpoint. Tensions rise as Seiji tries to get his father to cooperate with him in taking care of Sumiko while Teppei struggles with trying to get Akari to notice him and reciprocate his feelings.

These guys always have some messed up Fuck You moments when they go out to eat, don't they?

Freeter seems like its going nowhere.

Seiji’s mother’s condition worsens and his father continues to be bullheaded about everything and neglect his wife. Seiji’s sister has to deal with a status-opinion obsessed mother-in-law (which i don’t know why she hasn’t told the old bitch to shove it already)  and Teppei wastes his time trying to bone this girl who does not want to date him because he doesn’t have money or a decent status.

The only character with any sense on the show is Chiba, one of the co-workers, who basically calls Akari and Seiji out on their bullshit. Yet, Teppei still defends Akari because he’s ~so madly in love with her~. I know this drama is all about triumph over the odds, but lets be realistic here… There’s but so much someone can take before they just give it all up and face reality. None of these characters face reality, its like reality conforms to their own bullheaded needs and desires.

Yeah, mte

Akari doesn’t like Teppei and finds him absolutely annoying, but after she get’s dumped, embarrassed, and called out for her superficial ways then she actually gives Teppei some attention. It may have been written to be like the girl saw the light, but to me it seems like she’s a woman that needs a man in her life and because she couldn’t score the top shelf of the selections, she caved in and decided to try the bottom shelf. Augh. Then Teppei, the ever so love struck fool, takes her in despite the fact that she’s embarrassed him more than plenty and stepped all over his emotions.

What?

Then we have Seiji who just is now dealing with the situation. He deals with it because he has no choice. His father is useless, his sister has her family, and he’s trying to get out. While he takes his mother into more consideration, I still find him weak with his father. Extremely. Respect aside, that is his wife and he should man up instead of blabbering on and on about how he’s doing the family a favor and hard working and without him Seiji wouldn’t be born etc etc.

When I watch Freeter, I get frustrated because no one is truly being realistic here. Maybe its because of my American customs and I just don’t understand a lot of Japanese thinking and approach to situations. I guess biting the bullet is more acceptable than simply tackling the problem.

Ep 5 caps here
