Seiji is successfully making it through each stage of his interviews thanks to his father’s help, but all of that soon gets tested once he realizes, again, that his mom is in trouble. Meanwhile, Ayako gets in trouble for telling off her mother-in-law, Teppei curses the world, and Manami decides to move forward in life.

No, I won't even talk about this scene.

Progress was made in episode 8 where Seiji managed to repair his relationship with his father through a mutual goal of passing his job interviews while Ayako finally stood up against her mother-in-law and said that she was, in more or less of a term, ” a waste as a person “. Teppei spent the entire episode crying about how his life sucks and Manami spent it sulking in the shadows, reliving the fear and guilt she experienced when a subordinate of her’s became crippled due to her ignoring an order. Eventually Teppei came around with Akari’s persistance and Manami finally managed to get over her guilt and move on – accepting the promotion and offer that was presented to her in episode 9.

At least he didnt blow her off this time around

Teppei, on the other hand, is still sulking and pushes Akari away once she gets tired of crying. Seiji’s mother, Sumiko, is swindled and the family is now in debt to a con-artist for 1,000,000 yen. Luckily enough Seiji has the money, but the sacrifice is that he must give up the home he was about to purchase for him and his mother to move in to because that was the money to start his move. He also sacrifices his job interview to save his mother but his father is enraged that he did that, finally putting an end to any chances he has in securing a job at a decent agency.

The drama finally picked up, but that’s because we’re now at the final chapter of the story. Every time I watch Freeter, its like I’m in a complacent daze. There’s nothing in the show that speaks out to me; I’m simply watching it to watch it because my stan’s in it. The acting in this episode was pretty bad and especially from the one guy who everyone praises to be an acting prodigy – Ninomiya Kazunari. It seemed as if he was in complete auto-pilot through episode 9. When he’s forced to choose between advancing himself through life or having his mother sink into a deeper depression due to the pressures of swindle, I expected Ninomiya to show that he was struggling through the decision. Instead, he “acted” that entire scene as if he was a dead fish that was just washed upon shore.

Dead eyes, scratchy voice, and mannerisms that seemed so overacted and unnatural.

The only thing he managed to do right in that scene was cry… but that, in my opinion, is the only think Ninomiya knows how to do successfully as an actor.

And don’t get me started on how his mother’s plight got resolved in less than 15 minutes because that was some fucking uneventful bullshit.

Your hair maybe 'fuwafuwa' and your face maybe flawless but I hate this character of yours. Sorry bb πŸ™

Maruyama Ryuhei’s Teppei is a character really don’t like. His character is supposed to be that sweetheart that, in some unfortunate way, is the one that gets the brunt of life in every possible way yet manages to rebound from it with a smile on his face. In this episode, while I fangirled how good he looked being all distraught with the disheveled hair and downcast eyes, the performance was something I did not like at all. Teppei reminds me of Mamoru from Uta no Onii-san, a happy character that goes through a major shitty mood swing that comes off completely uncharacteristic of the character. Teppei goes on and on about not being able to return to work and how he sucks as a person and how he can’t find a job because he doesn’t know anything else… and you’re like, ” Just fucking grow some balls already and get over it. ”

He is introduced as the carefree glue of the group who does anything to make sure those around him are happy, and yet he feels useless because he won’t be a good husband for his girlfriend… Which is stupid because he’s been out of work for 2 weeks and rationality hasn’t sit in yet? And wasn’t he at a company picnic party as if nothing happened?

There’s something I’ve noticed about Maru and his characters and it’s that something in which he’s seemingly becoming a typecast as… and I most definitely do not like this typecast.

There’s cultural differences in this drama that makes it hard for me to appreciate the show for what it is. I maybe γƒŸγƒƒγ‚―γ‚Ή but I’m still a ε››δΈ– in America and I am American. A lot of the social aspects of Japan is the reason why my family came to America and Americanized themselves… and not growing up “Japanese” but as an “American” is definitely clashing whenever I watch this show.

Anyway, Aiba is guest appearing in the final episode as Manami’s replacement. I really do not see how this is going to end good because I can already predict it – Teppei returns to work, Seiji stays, Manami leaves, and everyone goes through life riding on unicorns that shit rainbows.

Really, this drama... no.
