Hello fellow readers,

Long time no post. Well, I did watch the Freeter and Clone Baby finales if anyone is wondering.. but with my consistent distaste for Freeter and my mild appreciation for Clone Baby, I felt that it would be redundant to repeat what I had been writing for nearly two months about those dramas.  In a nutshell

1) I don’t like Freeter. Haphazard storyline mixed with medicore acting and a predictable ass ending with no conflict

2) Clone Baby was good for what it was worth

There.  Done deal.

Now, I’m not going to be watching much dramas for Winter 2011. Nothing looks that interesting to me, so I’ll stick to my K8 rule of dramas and watch Control, staring Yokoyama Yuu. I recently watched the first episode and it was pretty good – light heart, semi-serious police drama. Probably will be predictable but it’s refreshing to see Yokoyama Yuu in a role that doesn’t have me saying, ” It’s Honma Toshio now with more smirking! ”

I won’t be as active with the reviews. I’ll probably do a first ep review, mid season overview, and finale thoughts. Japanese Dramas aren’t like sitcoms or American dramas, meaning they’re not as long and I usually tend to keep my first impression on the show as nothing changes. Usually the change point of a drama is the mid point, either it jumps ship or stays afloat.

To spice up this blog, I may include reviews and thoughts of other hobbies and interests of mine.

Now, for some thoughts on the 2010 drama year. Winter 2010 and Spring 2010 were not remarkable as the 2009 drama seasons. I believe I ended up dropping the dramas I was watching those seasons. Summer 2010 was probably the best summer season I’ve seen so far since Summer 2008, which was a sigh of relief. Joker and Unubore Deka were some strong and entertaining dramas that didn’t disappoint at all. Fall 2010 was probably the worst drama season I’ve endured in all my years of watching dramas (8 years). SPEC apparently was the winner for that season, after the disappointment of Freeter and Juui Dolittle coupled with an increasing personal schedule, I just didn’t want to watch anything else that season.

2010 Drama year was a bad year. I do not understand what is going on with the drama industry in Japan, but there are less engaging and interesting dramas to watch these days. It is starting to become an issue of, ” I’ve seen this before ” in terms of plotline and troupes. Japan needs to stop focusing on the top gimmicks and just write an engaging storyline with compelling characters and great actors. Stop writing dramas to work with the god damn boybands and idols and write a drama that forces them to work.

Blah.
