More throwback reviews from at the time I was watching it. Just short and about the ending the show in whole. Not much detail.

Ryuusei no Clusterfuck ending – 😐
Disappointment of the Season? Quite possibly. I had high expectations for this drama, so I was pretty disappointed because I had expected something deep. Though, the drama did get “deep” it didn’t grab my attention. If I had to compare the level of deepness, I’d compare to episodes 3 and 4 of Maou and then stretch that for 10 episodes — and those two episodes of Maou are the slowest episodes of the entire season, stagnant drama that really goes no where but occasionally has a spark that some what keeps you watching, but its not enough to grab you.
It began to become quite annoying with Erika Toda’s character crying in every single episode. Either because it was the rice or the fact he looked at her a certain way or hhe made the wrong step. She stopped becoming an appealing character and more of a crybaby that was just annoying to watch. From loud mouth, stern and spunky to ” BAWWWW BAW BAW BAW BAAAAAAAAAAAW “. Seriously, jesus, get a grip. Ryo’s character pretty much existed, staying too much in a comfortable zone of ” I’m dumb, but hey, I’ll have spurts of emo here and there in between all the talking I do ” and not really expanding beyond that shell. Pretty much his character was comic relief, but when his chance to shine came rolling along in episode 9 – 10, I wasn’t really buying it. Nino’s character was the driving force of the drama, but his acting was so flat I fell asleep on his scenes a few times — To the point that I actually stopped in the middle of episode five and blew off this series for two and a half weeks. When his moment of drama came in episode 10, I was midly impressed but when comparing it to the moment of Maou, where Toma and Ohno face off, I felt nothing from it.
Ryuusei no Kizuna suffered from, I think, hype and a promising cast that just didn’t really deliver. Between the flat acting, the clusterfuck storyline (really, was the Tai/Shi really necessary?), and final episode that had me checking the status bar of my player every five minutes after the climax (I literally thought ” Oh god, you mean I still have fifteen more minutes?”) — Ryuusei no Kizuna was just a big fat disappointment. Though I am glad that they didn’t go for the ” Parents killed over recipe for Hayashi Rice “, the twist in the story wasn’t all that convincing. I know they tried to go for a faaaaaaar left field, but clearly, with the evidence provided and the DNA literally everywhere at the crime scene, the fact that they didn’t catch the criminal then was pretty ” Wow, Japanese Police are either dumbfucks or this twist really just failed and hard “.
And I doubt that the police of the Tokyo Metropolitian Area would be that fucking stupid.
So, in the end, the umbrella was the key to the story but the way that it was delivered was more facepalm then anything.
Ryuusei no Kizuna wasn’t all that. Pretty faces, some tears, and a clusterfuck story jumping between mind boggling swindling to “deep” and “emotional” scenes of inner conflict just isn’t enough to get me rolling. Utahime was ten times better than this drama, and I had issues with that one too. Major. Especially with Ohkura’s character. He could have diaf for all I cared.
I don’t think I’ll watch it again but its clearly obvious that Last Friends was Ryo’s acting highlight of this year. At least he put effort in to knocking bitches out. And Nino could have done way better with what I’ve seen from his dramas and movie.
